Stellar Organics 2011 Pinotage

Posted by on Thursday, 14 March, 2013

Time to wind down with some organic wine! This time I chose Stellar Organics Pinotage 2011. This organic red wine has no added sulfites, is vegan, and is fairly traded. It hails from South Africa. That means there are no pesticides, herbicides, or other nasty chemicals used in growing these organic grapes for wine making. Yay!! And this wine is relatively cheap. In price, that is, not is it’s making.

My girlfriend and I both liked this wine. The Stellar Organics Pinotage 2011 had a little spiciness to it with an overal plum/fruity flavor. It would go perfect with a … Read the rest

Pacific Redwood Organic Pinot Noir Wine 2011

Posted by on Saturday, 2 March, 2013

Want a wine that has only has naturally occurring sulfites and is organic? I know I do. Try Pacific Redwood Organic Pinot Noir 2011. This organic red wine is tasty, smooth, and cheap. I did a review on Pacific Redwood Organic Cabernet a while ago, and I liked that organic red wine as well. It’s hard to find wine these days that’s organic, vegan friendly, and has NO added sulfites. You would think that should be the norm. Unfortunately, it’s not. But for this California wine company it is!!

Pacific Redwood Organic Pinot Noir is smooth and light with hints … Read the rest

Pacific Redwood Organic Cabernet

Posted by on Wednesday, 5 December, 2012

Pacific Redwood Organic Cab hails from Redwood Valley, California. This organic red wine is great for vegans and for people looking for a sulfite free wine. Pacific Redwood Organic Cab is made with organically grown grapes and processed naturally, with NO added sulfites or other synthetic preservatives. Nice, right? You, betcha. Pacific Redwood also totes about natural farming in general, which I find very cool.

This organic cab is full-bodied with hints of cherries and chocolates. I also found that this organic cabernet had a bit of spice to it. The first sip went down easy, just like the rest … Read the rest

Santa Julia Malbec 2011

Posted by on Tuesday, 21 August, 2012

This organic malbec is grown and produced in Mendoza, Argentina. The winery found its beginning  in 1963 by Alberto V. Zuccardi, but is now operated by the son, José Alberto Zuccardi.

What makes this wine so great is that it’s made with 100% organic grapes without breaking the bank.  This organic malbec will run you less than $10. In fact, you can find Santa Julia at Binnys.  And if that’s not enough to make you smile then here’s this:  This family run vineyard uses every means possible to ease their burden on the environment.  They use green fertilizers, recycled … Read the rest

Live-a-Little Organic and Fairtrade Red Wine

Posted by on Friday, 3 August, 2012

I found this hidden gem at Binnys in Chicago. Live-a-Little Really Ravishing Red is an organic and fairtrade red blend from South Africa. Stella Winery is behind this really fantastic and smooth red. In fact, Stella Winery was awarded the first ever Fairtrade certification from FLO e.V in 2011. Nice work, right?

What exactly is Fair Trade? Simply put, it’s where all parties involved are treated, well, fairly. Fair in price. Fair in environmental and ethical practices. Very cool. If you would like to read more about Stella Winery and their fair trade practices, click here.

What’s also great … Read the rest

Sulfite Free Wine List

Posted by on Wednesday, 14 September, 2011

People keep asking me about Sulfite Free wines. Which ones are good? How do you know if the wine is Sulfite Free? Are sulfite free wines organic too? Well, the answers to those questions are: Lots. It says. And sometimes.

Let me give you the run down. Organic wines mean no pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers or synthetic chemicals of any kind are permitted to be used on the grape vines or in the soil.  Also, organic wines use waaaaaay less sulfites. As in, practically none compared to other non-organic wines.  Here’s a blurb on the definition between “No Sulfites Added” … Read the rest

Novas Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Organic Red Wine

Posted by on Wednesday, 29 June, 2011

Another red wine produced by Emiliana is the Novas Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. This wine is made from organic grapes and does contain sulfites but the bare minimum. What’s so great about an organic wine by Emiliana? Well, click here to read my last wine rant and click here to read about the actual vineyard.

This organic cab sav was not my favorite, but it was still good. I thought it was on the sweet side with strong flavors of berries. But maybe that’s just me. After a few sips the sweetness did seem to subside and you could taste the … Read the rest

Natura Cabernet Sauvignon Organic Red Wine from Emiliana

Posted by on Thursday, 23 June, 2011

I tried this new organic Cabernet Sauvignon and it was excellent. So, I looked upon the bottle to see what vineyard it was from. This Natura Cab Sav is born and raised in the Emiliana vineyard and made with organic grapes. What I also found was another bottle of wine in my arsenal with a different name but born and raised in the same Emiliana vineyard family. Which leads me to believe that Emiliana makes more than a few different wines. Upon further research, Emiliana has Biodynamic Wines, Organic Wines and Integrated Management Wines. Their Natura brand falls under the … Read the rest

Santa Julia Organic Cabernet Sauvignon Red Wine 2009

Posted by on Friday, 17 June, 2011

I’m no stranger of Santa Julia organic wine but I’m no expert either. I have only had the Santa Julia Organic Malbec, so I was thrilled to have my little eyes spy a Santa Julia Organic Cabernet Sauvignon. This Cab Sav will cost you about 12 bucks and it’s worth it. Man, oh man, it’s great to have cheap wine, that’s made with organic grapes and, annndd, gives back to the environment by ways of recycling and energy conservation.

The winery is located in Argentina and not only do they do what’s mentioned above, Santa Julia also does social … Read the rest

Releaf Chenin Blanc Organic White Wine

Posted by on Wednesday, 1 June, 2011

I do love me some Organic Releaf Red Wine and so I decided it was time to try the Organic Releaf White. White wine tends to be sweet to me and this one was no different. It has a somewhat citrus and tropical flavor to it. But it’s not so over powering. It would go great with a crisp salad, seafood or strawberries as a dessert.

Releaf Wine is a product of South Africa and has an alcohol content is 13%.  And something else that should make you feel good about drinking Releaf is that this particular wine company uses … Read the rest
