Cooked Bulgur Wheat for Breakfast, a Healthy Grain

Cereal doesn’t fill me up in the mornings. I eat a couple of bowls and I’m hungry again a couple hours later. Oh, woe is me. So a gal pal of mine told me to try bulgur. Bulgur wheat has a super long history, dating back to approximately 2800 BC with origins in the Mediterranean region. Nowadays it is located in my kitchen pantry.

Bulgar contains numerous vitamins and minerals which will give you a jump start for the day. What’s actually so good about it, you ask? Well, how ’bout some folate, niacin, phosphorus, copper, zinc, magnesium and manganese. … Read the rest

Buttermilk Bulgar Bread

Bread machines are a beautiful thing. Since I’ve discovered this new kitchen toy, I haven’t bought bread. I like the simple and natural ingredients.

This high fiber bread has 34grams of fiber total and tastes delicious as a sandwich bread or with almond butter and jam. The addition of the bulgar makes it look a little different and lends a nutty texture.

1.25 cups water
1.25 tsp salt
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp organic coconut oil
1.5 cups stone ground whole wheat flour
1.5 cups bread flour
2/3 cup medium grind organic bulgar
1/3 cup buttermilk powder
1.25 tsp instant … Read the rest

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

I wanted to try out a vegan recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I am not vegan, but I do have a lot of vegan friends so I thought what the hell, why not. It’s my first attempt at a vegan recipe but I think the cookies turned out really, really well. They’re soft in the middle too. Also, I used H2O to help moisten the dough up, but if you feel like you need to add more I suggest adding very little each time so not top make it soup like :)

2 Cups Flour
2 Tsp Baking Powder
Pinch o’ … Read the rest

Chocolate Cookies - Butter Free

It was my task to make cookies for a girls pajama party.  You know the kind where you and your girlfriends lounge around in jammies and pig out on ice cream, cookies and cake.  Like usual, I waited until the last minute to bake these bad boys.  As I’m throwing in some ingredients I realized I was out of butter.   Whoops!  So I changed up my recipe and hoped for the best.  When all was said and done, they tasted great!

Here you go:

2 1/4 Cups of all purpose flour
2 organic free range eggs

Healthy Chicken Broth Based Dog Treats

Healthy and Easy Dog Treats with Chicken Broth

I was trying to think of inexpensive ways to make my dog’s tummy happy.  Dog treats have gotten so pricey and the ingredients are well, down right nasty at times.  So I experimented on my own and made a tasty little treat that Fido would enjoy.

I used leftover chicken broth.  We have a slow cooker and cook a chicken in it for one of our dinners.  Well, when you take the chicken out what’s left in the pot is chicken bits and watery broth stuff.  Yummy.  Not for you but for your pup it sure is.  You could probably … Read the rest

Organic Blueberry Oat Muffins

Usually I wake up hungry.  I’m not one of those grab a coffee on the go type of girls.  I need to be fed.  The old saying is right; Breakfast is a very important part of your day.  So, why not start it off right with muffins?  Muffins are great because you can make a small batch and that’s enough to last you more than a few days.  Plus, you can make them as good for you as you like.  Not all muffins have to be high in sugar or be full of not so good for you ingredients if … Read the rest
