Vegan Cranberry Almond Muffins

Posted by on Tuesday, 15 May, 2012

I’ve been on a chia seed kick lately. Chia Seeds are an easy way to add some good proteins, healthy omega-3 fatty acids as well as other minerals. You can literally add some chia seeds to any thing without an overpowering taste. I like it because it adds a little crunch to things. To rad more about the benefits of chia seeds, click here.

This is a pretty easy and quick muffin mix to whip up. And it’s vegan 🙂

Eggless Blueberry Muffins

Posted by on Wednesday, 9 May, 2012

I love eggs. Like, a lot, so why did I go eggless on this recipe? I ran out and couldn’t pick any up from my egg-man until this upcoming weekend. But I was still in the mood for muffins so I thought I would try out this little crazy concoction recipe and see how it went. And just so you know… it went surprisingly well.

1.25 Cups Milk
3/4 Cup Oats
1 Tbsp Ground Flax Seed

Cooked Bulgur Wheat for Breakfast, a Healthy Grain

Posted by on Tuesday, 8 November, 2011

Cereal doesn’t fill me up in the mornings. I eat a couple of bowls and I’m hungry again a couple hours later. Oh, woe is me. So a gal pal of mine told me to try bulgur. Bulgur wheat has a super long history, dating back to approximately 2800 BC with origins in the Mediterranean region. Nowadays it is located in my kitchen pantry.

Bulgar contains numerous vitamins and minerals which will give you a jump start for the day. What’s actually so good about it, you ask? Well, how ’bout some folate, niacin, phosphorus, copper, zinc, magnesium and manganese. … Read the rest

1.5lb Buttermilk Bulgar Bread Machine Recipe

Posted by on Monday, 2 May, 2011

Bread machines are a beautiful thing. Since I’ve discovered this new kitchen toy, I haven’t bought bread. I like the simple and natural ingredients.

This high fiber bread has 34grams of fiber total and tastes delicious as a sandwich bread or with almond butter and jam. The addition of the bulgar makes it look a little different and lends a nutty texture.

1.25 cups water
1.25 tsp salt
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp organic coconut oil
1.5 cups stone ground whole wheat flour
1.5 cups bread flour
2/3 cup medium grind organic bulgar
1/3 cup buttermilk powder
1.25 tsp instant … Read the rest

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

Posted by on Tuesday, 19 April, 2011

I wanted to try out a vegan recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I am not vegan, but I do have a lot of vegan friends so I thought what the hell, why not. It’s my first attempt at a vegan recipe but I think the cookies turned out really, really well. They’re soft in the middle too. Also, I used H2O to help moisten the dough up, but if you feel like you need to add more I suggest adding very little each time so not top make it soup like 🙂

2 Tsp Baking Powder

Chocolate Chip Cookies — Butter Free

Posted by on Sunday, 28 November, 2010

It was my task to make cookies for a girls pajama party.  You know the kind where you and your girlfriends lounge around in jammies and pig out on ice cream, cookies and cake.  Like usual, I waited until the last minute to bake these bad boys.  As I’m throwing in some ingredients I realized I was out of butter.   Whoops!  So I changed up my recipe and hoped for the best.  When all was said and done, they tasted great!

Here you go:

2 1/4 Cups of all purpose flour
2 organic free range eggs

Healthy Chicken Broth Based Dog Treats

Posted by on Monday, 16 August, 2010

I was trying to think of inexpensive ways to make my dog’s tummy happy.  Dog treats have gotten so pricey and the ingredients are well, down right nasty at times.  So I experimented on my own and made a tasty little treat that Fido would enjoy.

I used leftover chicken broth.  We have a slow cooker and cook a chicken in it for one of our dinners.  Well, when you take the chicken out what’s left in the pot is chicken bits and watery broth stuff.  Yummy.  Not for you but for your pup it sure is.  You could probably … Read the rest

Healthy Easy to Make Dog Treats

Posted by on Thursday, 8 July, 2010

I love my dog.  She’s my best friend with four feet. Honestly.  And I love to spoil her with treats.  But they are a little costly and I don’t really want to give her treats with a million different ingredients in them either.  Lets take Del Monte’s Pup Peroni ingredients, shall we:

Beef, Meat by-Products, Soy Grits, Sugar, Liver, Salt, Propylene Glycol, Garlic Powder, Caramel Color, Natural Smoke Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (used as a preservative), Sodium Nitrite (for color retention), Red 40, BHA (used as a preservative), Onion Extract.
