Bonterra Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 Organic Wine

I’ve tried another Bonterra Wine before but it was a Chardonnay white.  And I liked it, so I thought I would give their Cab Sav a go.  Usually I love, love, love Cab Savs.  Like, a lot.  But this one, in MY opinion, was a little sub par.  Most Cab Savs are such full bodied wines with fruity flavor and with this one, I thought, not so much.  It was simply okay.  Even though Bonterra’s organic wine run under $15 a bottle, I would prefer to spend my hard earned cash on something a little more tasty.

It did get 92 points from the Wine Enthusiast with a comment that says, “A wonderful red wine, full-bodied, dry and elegant. It shows Cabernet character in the blackberries, cherries and black currants, but that’s balanced with an earthiness and minerality and even some smoked meat notes that must come from a percentage of Syrah and Petite Sirah. Tasted in a flight of much more expensive Cabs, this one easily stood out. Drink now 2011.”

I did get a sightly fruity flavor but it was kinda more on the currant side.  Not that that is a bad thing, maybe it’s just not my thing.  I do however really like the company as a whole.  I think any company that tries to do organic anything deserves more than a pat on the back.  They were one of the first California Vinyards to fully commit to practices of organic wines.  Read more about Bonterra Vinyards here.

I will try this brand of wine again, after I try others by Bonterra.  Just because their Cab Sav wasn’t for me doesn’t mean that they don’t have one with my name on it :)

I had this wine and I must say it is fantastic! I have an allergy to yeast and many wines seem to bother me even other organic wines but this one for some reason is okay for me :)
