Ventura Malbec Organic Wine Time

Ventura Malbec Organic 2007 Wine

Malbec wines make my mouth water.  The first time I tried a Malbec I thought it was a blend of wines.  I didn’t really know anything about them.  I just knew it tasted so smooth and rich in flavor without the bitter dryness.  Malbec wine is kind of a hybrid of a Cab Sav and a Merlot.  The blend of grapes gives it that plum-y flavor.  I haven’t found too many Malbec organic wines so when I stumbled upon Ventura Malbec 2007 in the organic section I jumped up and down with joy was excited.

Beer Battered Fish Pan Fried in Coconut Oil

This is a quick and easy recipe that I just LOVE.  Instead of that deep fried version this one is a slightly healthier way to eat beer battered fish. It’s pan fried in a small amount of coconut oil, which adds a delicious flavor profile.  Plus, most of the ingredients you probably already have in your pantry and fridge.  It’s a great way to cook freshly caught fish (the first time I tried it was when my dad caught some walleye). Easy already, right?

2 Pounds cod fillets or your preferred fish
2 -4 Tbsp organic extra virgin coconut oilRead the rest

Evie after Healthy Organic Dog Treats

I love my dog.  She’s my best friend with four feet. Honestly.  And I love to spoil her with treats.  But they are a little costly and I don’t really want to give her treats with a million different ingredients in them either.  Lets take Del Monte’s Pup Peroni ingredients, shall we:

Beef, Meat by-Products, Soy Grits, Sugar, Liver, Salt, Propylene Glycol, Garlic Powder, Caramel Color, Natural Smoke Flavor, Potassium Sorbate (used as a preservative), Sodium Nitrite (for color retention), Red 40, BHA (used as a preservative), Onion Extract. Bonterra Organic Chardonnay White Wine

Normally, I’m a red girl but I won’t say no to whites.  I like whites, I do but sometimes they make a little rumbly in my tumbly.  They’re too sweet and it kinda turns my stomach.  Anyway, I was in the mood for chilled wine on a hot summer day so I grabbed a bottle of Bonterra Chardonnay.  It’s organic, that means it is made with organically grown grapes.  Which that means, no pesticides,  herbicides, chemical fertilizers or synthetic chemicals of any kind are permitted to be used on the grape vines or in the soil.  Awesome.

Classic Hummus Recipe using Dried Garbanzo Beans

Classic Hummus Recipe

Hummus is one of the easiest snacks, appetizers, dips, or spreads to make. Just throw all your ingredients in a food processor and blend.  I love hummus and I make it using both canned garbanzos and dried garbanzo beans. However, if I have the forethought I always use dried because the hummus turns out smoother, fluffier and tastes better. It’s really not much more work than using a can, it just takes a little more preparation and advanced planning since you have to soak the beans overnight and boil them. Plus there isn’t any added sodium or preservatives when you … Read the rest

Orleans Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Organic Wine, No Sulfites Detected

When I lived in Chicago I would drink Orleans Hill wine sometimes.  It was organic and contained no added sulfites.  Less sulfites makes for less headaches and less fire knees.  WTF are fire knees, you ask?  Well, some of the side effects of sulfite-filled wines are: headaches, cramps, flushed face and/or body and in some cases even hives.  One of my girlfriends get really really hot knees.  Fire knees, in fact.  When she told me of her problem, I laughed and called her crazy.  Then I looked at her knees, they were bright red and when I touched them they … Read the rest

Organic Oatmeal and Chocolate Chip Cookies

I know I said I’m on a mission to find the best Peanut Butter Cookie recipe BUT, so what if I make a couple pit stops with other types of cookies along the way.  Maybe I just need to cleanse my palate, if you will.  On to yummy Oatmeal Cookies!!

I tried to make them somewhat healthy.  Okay, perhaps “healthy” is a bit of a stretch for cookies, but I tried.  Here goes nothin’…

1 cup organic raw sugar  — As I’ve stated … Read the rest
